Joseph C Analysis of DMV Sex Offender Data: Focus on Employment by Industry
General Overview:
It’s hard to find a job as a returning citizen, especially so if you are listed on the public sex offender database. We are assuming if this type of offender can find employment in specific job sectors, those employers or industries might also be amenable to hire other offender types. So we are scraping state sex offender employment addresses and finding the corresponding business names. We will match this to industry codes as well as compile labor market data in order to draw conclusions about hiring practices and opportunities for all returning citizens.
  • Understand industry types (see naics codes) that hire this type of returning citizen.
  • Assess the employment situation for all DC, Maryland and Virginia sex offenders.
  • Draw conclusions about “best bets” for returning citizen employment as a whole.
